Ahh, a few people have asked for a Pixel tutorial or something to help them out ,, hehe and I’m not too good at them apparently, its kinda just a process hhh ;o; I hope this could help somebody out though im in a little bit of a rush so please excuse any spelling errors ;//o//; If you have any questions or anything feel free to ask (cause im guessing my handwriting is p bad too heheh) ;u;v Oh, and the finished thing is here ;u;
im not good at teaching so im just gonna throw stuff that pops in my head
You can either apply shine based on the colour of the metal, or you can use a single colour of shine for the entire thing
It is safer to go with hard shine than soft shine, because hard shine is easier to draw and looks better in most cases. But if done proper, can be used together.
.You can have normal, decent highlights oR YOU CAN GO INSANE W/THEM
There’s no strict way on how you should apply highlights. General rule of thumb is to place them on areas of plating facing most toward the light source, and on edges of plating. But you can also place them in random spots like this and it will still look good!
Well technically, it’s not random, it does occur in real life, but someone else would be better at explaining this phenomenon than I . You can see it kinda happening here. Refracted light causes the bands of highlight, though less bright here.
edit: ok here is a gif i just saw that has this same kind effect, but in motion
Most importantly, study other artists’ work and experiment with your own. Gold is a great reflective material to study highlights from, as there’s little risk of other colours infecting it, as silver would. And there’s a lot of reference images on google! As you can see, there isn’t a surefire way to teach you the intuition of “Where should I put the highlights”. don’t place them in shadow areas and you should be good EXCEPT
metal REFLECTS SO YOU’VE GOT HIGHLIGHTS IN SHADOWS TOOOO
ahhahahahahahaha
Warning tho: Don’t use colour dodge or other filters to do the shiny for you. make it with yer own colours.
Eeee!!! Hello!!!! Goodness, I love helping other people write, especially because it’s shit like what you’re looking to create that has me going “gimme it noooowwww because it sounds so goooooood!!!”
Okay, so, my own fangirling aside, I’m going to give you the advice that I follow myself:
Write the story that you want to read.
Are there tropes? Sure. But they’re fun tropes. Are they overdone? Maybe, but how can you make it funny or heartbreaking, rather than cliché? Better yet? Forget about tropes. Your reader base will find out the tropes on their own and have fun numbering them. If you ever want to see an incredible list that I had no hand in, but have so much fun reading, Check This Outon TV Tropes. It not only tells you what tropes I inadvertently used, but also how they were tropes in Things We Don’t Tell Humans. Which I do plan on finishing, but goddamn is that fic a pain in my ass right now.
How gay is too gay? Okay, look. There’s never anything so much as Too Gay when it’s Op/Megs. Let’s be realistic. Battles are foreplay. Sassing at each other is basic communication skills. Their world is your playground, and you’re the one who gets to choose if we’re going to be on the swings or on the merry-go-round for this chapter, or that long arc. The only time something becomes Too Gay is if you’re the one wincing and wondering if you should tone it down and save some of the Gay for another chapter.
Have Fun!
Don’t write to please someone else, unless this is a commissioned fic. And if you need a beta reader, or if you just want me to read it, I would be super, super happy to have the chance to read your labor of love. Because I’m a sucker for MegOp fics.
Listen Anon you and me are gonna have to scrap here cause I’m LITERALLY writing that fic in a notebook rn, and…
Funny story:Two people can use the same prompt and it will end up being two totally different animals. For example, let’s use a different couple and situation: Jazz and Prowl.
Prompt: Jazz and Prowl find themselves tossed back in time on Earth, and have to somehow not get caught while trying to return to the present time. While they’re stuck, they realize that their friendship could soon be … more. (MWA-HAHAHA!)
So, Author A decides to make this fluffy. It’s cute, it’s sweet, it doesn’t have a lot of conflict. It’s one of those one-shot realization fics that’s rated T and they get home safely.
Author B wants to have it include a lot of character conflict, and does an frenemies-to-fuckbuddies-to-lovers sort of fic. It’s a multi-chapter, has complex BDSM elements, rated Explicit, and has an open ending just to torture readers.
Neither one is better than the other; they have two different audiences, and can make the same prompt into to different animals. There’s no wrong answer in fanfiction.
there’s an acronym in the romance publishing industry (probably others too but romance is the one I know): IAITE, or It’s All In The Execution! no two people will write a story the same way, so WRITE IT and have fun!
also a great phrase, this one from tumblr: MORE CAKE!!! (I tried to link to the original post but the OP took it down, probably because it got so many notes since it’s awesome) this was about art, but it definitely applies to fics too, or any other type of fanwork. so I hope both of you write your fics and post them cuz I’m a sucker for MegOP too and I am always gonna be excited about more cake!
