Haha well I don’t really have much of an opinion on Unicron beyond “Welp, he’s out there somewhere I guess?” because generally like IDW!Shockwave- he’s used as a plot point rather than a character in most TFS narratives. I’ve seen the fan theories about how Unicron’s responsible for almost every shitty thing that happens- but he’s kinda like Hitler or Voldermort y’know?
I mean- he’s there, but you don’t really know him as a “person” more than a “concept” so you just go about your shipping and squeeing with barely a “yeah Unicron end of the world, Voldermort whatever.” because ultimately for a fan- Unicron isn’t really relatable beyond his representation as “THE BIG BAD END”.
So unless things change or Unicron’s character is expanded in some meaningful way beyond his role as “Robo-Hitler-Voldermort-Satan”, I doubt there’d be much interest in him as a character.
Can’t recall if it’s a canon somewhere or if it was fanon/ read in a fic once, but there’s been those ideas floating around of Unicron/Primus being necessary parts of death/life cycle. And that… just like the grim reaper in western human lore… people just don’t like him cuz they fear death/ the end of existence. But to that end, Unicron would defend his purpose by saying “nothing can or should live forever, for things must end so that others may begin”. He just… has a tendency to be violent/big/abrupt about said end, haha.
It could be cool to see a convo between Unicron and Primus in which Unicron admits it’s strange to harbor signs of life on his body, when all his existence his purpose had been for death, and how Primus, once buzzing with activity, sits hollowed and lifeless after centuries of war…
fuzz has a better answer here~ (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ
(Although I honestly think that the only reason why they make Unicron our Earth- is to explain to the audience why the Cybertronians would want to come to our mudball lol. But there are meaningful ways of expanding on that “plot point” and to make it more than just a convenient excuse- which tbh in canon is taken for granted most times.)
But yeah, I would love to have an actual conversation between Unicron and Primus the way that canon material has OP and Megs interacting. In that through their long history of conflict/interaction their outwardly antagonistic relationship had somehow morphed into something deeper and more complicated than simple hate or opposition. <– this is the sort of meaningful expansion of “character” that would probably generate more interest in Unicron.
Rather than having Unicron just yelling down at whatever poor sod/crazy idiot who thought it’d be a good idea to sell their soul to Unicron lol. They could actually make him more appealing as a character- more Lord Vetinari/Mephistopheles rather than Voldermort/Satan.
(Wouldn’t it be interesting if Unicron approaches OP and seduces him to the “Dark Side” in the guise of greater good and plays him off Megs instead? Rather than having Megs be Galvatron-ized again…)
ok art’s, like, not a thing on tfa cybertron (nobody knew what it was in headmaster) but they also have these giant stained glass windows??
does this not count as art or…
You know what, Transformers Animated has so many plot holes for their culture I’ve genuinely spend time thinking about them. For example Blitzwing in episode 11 ‘Lost and Found’ tells Lugnut:
[Lugnut stomps on a lunar rover by mistake] Blitzwing: [Hothead] Careful, you copper-clad klutz! You stepped in something! Blitzwing: [switches to Random] But with a few dancing lessons, you’ll be light on your stabilizing servos like me! Cha-cha-cha!
So Decepticons have dance, but not music because Megatron calls Sari’s music ‘odd sound patterns’
BUT Rosanna is an Autobot singer: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rosanna_(Animated) so they have singing as a concept on Cybertron. Does that mean dancing is done to singing back on cybertron? Or is it by some other means?
Also, regarding art, in the official Transformers animated comic, The Arrival, set during the pilot of TFA; Blitzwing is is a public speaker at Megatron’s funeral, and he built a statue to commemorate Megatron, does that not count as art?
I have put too much thought into this cartoon.
same tho,,
ok ok maybe it’s that only younger autobots don’t know what art is. maybe it used to be a thing waaay back when, even before ratchet was around, but then they stopped doing it for some reason. maybe decepticons have a healthy art community.
and—wait, isn’t rosanna a decepticon double agent or something? it’s implied that she’s flip sides, isn’t it? so actually decepticons… should know what music is, right? or was that just not important enough for megatron to teach himself about? maybe cybertronian music is different from earth music or something?
(R:) A thing I have really loved over the course of Megatron’s recent character development is the indication that he’s intensely introverted. Based on the epic leadership and murderous wrath and other very outgoing qualities that he traditionally has, it would be easy to assume that he’s extroverted and gets all his fuel from being immersed in his crowd of followers. But the idea that he could actually do all those things while needing alone time and quiet to keep himself charged up for eons of warfare is actually really inspirational. 🙂
Granted, most introverts don’t have the option of straight-up murdering anybody who interrupts quiet time (and cultivating the legend of a hair-trigger temper would be great for defending one’s recharge), but still…it’s kind of a really nifty role model thing for introverts who feel like they could never lead or move-and-shake purely because they aren’t charged up by other people. A genocidal warlord role model, yeah, but introverts have to take what they can get sometimes.
(I actually like Megatron being an introvert more than if there was some more conventional TF hero introvert. It fits into the Early Decepticon High Command As Isle of Misfit Toys pattern, where everybody in Megatron’s inner circle was some kind of ostracized weirdo. Among everything else weird about Baby Megatron, he was an introvert who stepped into a very public leadership role. …No wonder he was pissed off all the time; fraggers kept bothering him about every little thing and sucking his limited social batteries dry. ^^)
