Sentinel Prime and the Failed Shield

Actually, y’know what? I lied. Running on exactly one episode of season 2 and its lone appearance of Sentinel outside of flashbacks or a forgettable phone call, I’m metaing about this slightly ridiculous chin man.

So I really enjoy Transformers Animated and the weapon choices it gives each character. They speak very meaningfully about the characters- the distant yet deeply emotional Prowl wielding incredibly sharp throwing weapons that allow him to engage intensely at a distance, the powerful and sensitive Bulkhead wielding huge, clunky-looking wrecking maces with impressive precision and finesse- the frugal and less bloodthirsty than she wants to admit Arachnia wielding power-copying with a side order of immobilizing venom.

So naturally, all the way back in Along Came A Spider, Sentinel’s shield stood out to me. It’s still standing out to me as of The Elite Guard and his formal introduction as a character.

Can we talk about how Starscream’s response to total failure (of the everything’s-burning-down-around-me variety) is to get on the ground and shut down? He’s done this at least three times so far.

(This is usually the part where someone shows up to beat him unconscious)

I thought of something even worse, and it’s that all the cold-constructed have a base-level behavioral loop that goes something like, “I see you’ve fucked up everything! Stay still and someone who knows what they’re doing will be along to deal with you shortly, you miserable failure. :)”

*shaky finger guns* AU where Jazz dies instead of Prowl. After a gruesome battle with the cons, Jazz was left injured badly, left to fade out. Prowl was able to find him via com link, but he was already too late.
Prowl had lost his sensei a similar way, loosing his friend only damaged him more, but gave him a greater purpose to bring down the decepticons who were responsible. Prowl however, got a bit too endorsed in wanting to avenge his friend, in which his motives later on questioned his autobot allies. He did it in honor of his sensei, in honor of Jazz.
