Certain substances can affect the processes of a Transformer (or a human,
for that matter) causing excitement, stupefaction or any one of a whole
host of altered mental states. While some are socially accepted and
legally available from certain establishments, others are outlawed due to their dangerous or addictive nature.
Angolmois Energy (アンゴルモアエネルギー Angorumoa Enerugī), or simply Angolmois, is the life-force of Unicron.
It is a powerful energy source which oftentimes has completely random
and unpredictable effects on the things it comes in contact with. It can
upgrade a Transformer and give them new bodies, or it can lift
mountains and freeze planets.
Just like Unicron, Angolmois Energy is extremely chaotic. It appears to be functionally identical to Dark Energon.[1] One form of containment for portions of this substance is referred to as an Angolmois Capsule (アンゴルモアカプセル Angorumoa Kapuseru).
As human beings spread out across the galaxy from Earth, they took with them the skills to distill intoxicating liquors. One such beverage is known as Betelgeux whiskey and though popular, it can leave a careless drinker with a bad hangover the next day.
The powerful crysmagnetal (クリスマグネタル kurisumagunetaru), shortened to crysmag, is a substance found only in the sunken continent of Lemuria. When energy is directed against it, it absorbs, magnifies, and redirects that energy, projecting it outwards.
Dark Energon is a powerful, corrupted version of energon which can be used as a violent weapon and explosive. As energon is the emanation of Primus, from which all Transformer life and power is formed, Dark Energon is similarly the emanation of Unicron, released after his first battle with the thirteen original Transformers.
Even the smallest particle of Dark Energon can corrupt any amount of
regular energon. Dark Energon can be used for a number of deadly uses
such as increasing one’s power, reviving the dead, corrupting
Transformers and even weakening some. It appears to be functionally
identical to Angolmois energy.[1]
>>| “No! No one can control Dark Energon! It dominates and destroys everything it touches!” <<| – Starscream,Transformers: War for Cybertron –
Invented by Quickmix on Cybertron, Fool’s Energon supposedly saps the strength of a Transformer, leaving them physically weaker than normal. In actuality, it’s a placebo, being nothing more than standard energon with an altered color and a foul taste.
Nucleon is an incredibly powerful energy source capable of being used as fuel by Transformers
and other mechanoid life forms, but though it can give great strength
and power and has even revived the nonfunctional, it often has terrible
side effects. Nucleon is said to affect no two types of mechanoid the
same. One very common effect for Transformers is the loss of transformation ability. The Action Masters resulted from injudicious use of this mysterious, dangerous substance.
Nucleon appears as a funky liquid with a dangerous glow. It looks
like fun, and seems to help, but don’t be a fool! Listen to your momma
and stay off the stuff!
Oil is a generic term for a slippery liquid that won’t mix readily with water. Oils vary widely in composition but generally consist of mixed organic compounds.
Oils find frequent use as lubricants, fuels, and solvents. Transformers
are among the users of oils in these capacities; however, they
sometimes consume certain oily substances in larger quantities than
strictly required, resulting in impairment of certain functions,
disorientation, and temporary mental dysfunction. Though at first it may
seem odd, some actively seek these seemingly-deleterious effects. What
is odder yet is that humans
seek out and consume varying solutions of a certain hydrocarbon with a
single hydroxyl group and experience effects quite similar to those
mentioned above. Further study is needed to explain this strange
coincidence.
Oil is often extracted by oil rigs, and transported in oil tankers and pipelines. All of these are popular targets for Decepticon attacks.
Reality inside Reality, that’s what Simultronic means to its
users. A drugging sensation applied through wires that are to be
attached to the head component, Simultronic is both a way for Transformers to escape this slagging world and to seriously mess up their central processor.
Syk is the street name of a forbidden circuit booster, presumably the Cybertronic equivalent of an illicit narcotic. Syk is forbidden even among the Decepticons.
Syk’s effects (and negative side-effects) are unknown, but it may be similar to overclocking,
where the increased strain on the boosted system carries a risk of
burnout. Alternately (given its dealers), it may be chemical in nature.
This is an area where the way IDW has handled gender means we have to kinda move away from “human” ways of thinking about it as “gay” or “straight” or “bi” or “pan.” It’s not something that’s really been delved into, but the implication is that gender doesn’t seem to matter to Transformers when it comes to romance. What we think of as homoromantic attraction is the standard on Cybertron because it’s been a planet on which only “male” Transformers existed for something like eight million years. But the sudden introduction of “female” Transformers to the planet throught contact with the colonies, while it’s confused some ‘bots, hasn’t led to some mass reinterpretation of romance by a population that has, in human terms, been 100% gay for eight million years.
Here’s the best way I can illustrate this: in MTMTE #41, both Getaway and Skids (guys) were flirting with Firestar (a girl):
But then in the next issue, Skids briefly refers to Firestar as male, because he has grown up on a planet where there is only one gender, and isn’t used to even thinking of there being a distinction:
So, I mean, you could interpret this to say “Skids is bi,” in that “he’s attracted to both males and females,” but really that’s too “human” a way to look at it. It’s that he doesn’t even have to mentally or socially differentiate between Firestar being either “male” or “female” to flirt with her. He just saw “an attractive Transformer.” That’s all that actually mattered, because… like, “gender” has been a thing on Cybertron for a hot five minutes. It doesn’t “matter” like that.
Watching Transformers G1 was amazing, especially to see the subtle differences to mannerisms compared to then and now. The ‘oh wow’ moment for me was when I noticed that everyone were speaking to their wrists when using comms, which is reminiscent of Dick Tracy and early James Bond movies with the wrist watches. But in TFP/RID15 and probably TFA as well, we get the “fingers to the ear” gesture as technology has evolved and miniature radio equipment is now in our ears instead of small gadgets.
Do you think that mean you can identify how old a mech is by watching how he uses his comms? Like, older models like Ironhide or Ratchet talking to their wrists while newly build ones like the Aerialbots speak with the ‘fingers to the the air’ gesture?
I love world-building and I have tons of headcanons that have nothing to do with anything but are just funny and cool things I’d like to add. This post is about a sub-genre of Cybertronian novels that I named “gladiator romance”, where true love is priceless and the object of the hero’s affection has nothing else to give.
Okay I can tell I’m tired but I;m having all these weird thoughts about like the war in tfa getting so bad that society breaks down and like Autobots using the hollowed out shells of Decepticons as shelter.
that’s so hardcore and cool and creepy and…
YEAH KEEP GOING I LOVE THIS
Well I mean with me things always go to Shockwave and Blurr. They’d have found each other in the clutter and, despite initial worries and conflict, become one of the very small fringe groups, Shockwave simply waiting for the smoke to clear so he can develop a plan to his and Cybertron’s advantage when he sees which side has won, Blurr being in conflict between wanting to go back to society and wanting to stay hidden so he doesn’t have to face the scrutiny and likely violent reactions of the others to their unconventional relationship. Shockwave cannibalizes the energon from corpses they find and doesn’t tell Blurr. They fight off random sects of wild mechs from either side who have beef with them for whatever reasons.
I love it when we get a little more knowledge about the constructed cold process. So as we can see, Starscream was completely identical to who knows how many others. I think I see the arm blasters there on the left as well. And lastly…not a single splash of paint. Who wants to bet that if a constructed cold bot wanted ANY individuality they had to save up what little money they’d earn from a job they were forced into, just to afford a paint job. After cost of living and all that I’d be surprised if they had more than a couple of shanix to rub together. On a side note I wonder if there would be some body dysphoria from the knowledge that you aren’t in any way unique. That every single piece that comprises you could be tracked to an assembly line.
oh my god, planned obsolescence in cold constructed ‘bots.
every part of your frame comes from a template, all the parts are identical to the fifty other people in your batch…all of it built to some questionable standard and possibly built to eventually give out. they wind up constantly reliant on their manufacturers/the government/black market parts to replace important pieces that constantly break down. that’s just how they’re designed: to artificially break down, so their life span is limited on purpose unless they can find parts similar enough to make it work.
I want to see transformers who have to struggle with glasses. Like maybe there’s a glitch in a huge batch of optics so they don’t work right -some bots are onlined with bad vison, others aquire it when their replacements begin to glitch. Or maybe individuals have injuries or coding bugs making any replacement optic have issues integrating properly so their vision is bad. Older bots whose vision isn’t nearly as high defenition as their newer counterparts.
Anyways, I want to see a bot hiding behind some structure in a battle, desperately scrounging through their subspace for a polishing cloth because their glasses are coated in grossness and they’re supposed to be providing cover fire for someone, but is hard to shoot accurately when you can’t even see your enemies.
A spy trying to be quiet because they’re hiding in an air vent in an enemy base, but their glasses are coated in dust because no one cleans the vents, and they left their cleaning kit so they could carry more surveillance equiptment so they’re trying to blow the dust off their lenses.
A bot cleaning and cleaning their glasses until they’re certain the lenses are perfectly spotless, only to slip them on and have a lense just pop out because they put so much force behind their polishing that they loosened a screw too much.
Bots squinting during surprise video calls because they were sleeping and didn’t have time to grab their glasses. And then when the one calling finishes talking, turning to whoever is next to them to confirm the identity 0f the caller.
Scientists having to attach their glasses to a lanyard or chain so that in their dangerous line of work they don’t lose their glasses and maintain their vision even if something explodes or gravity suddenly stops working. Again. Having to fit safety goggles over their glasses and bitching about how uncomfortable it is. Constantly taking them off and putting them back on when working with a microscope or magnifying lens.
A nerdy bot getting hyped about a movie but losing the hype when they can only watch it in 3D because that means sitting through it with twice the weight on their nose and having to constantly push the 3D glasses back up.
I have more I want to add to this but it’s late and I need to sleep and this is already kinda long.
OKAY SO I HEAR A LOT OF PEOPLE GET CONFUSED ABOUT ALL THESE WORDS AND TERMS FOR TRANSFORMERS (because we, as a fandom, like to use fancy words for our robots, we have literally reached subculture status guys we have our own dialect congratulations) AND DON’T KNOW WHAT TO USE FOR WHAT SO BECAUSE I TOO SUFFER I WILL HELP YOU
IF YOU KNOW OTHERS THAT ARE NOT LISTED HERE FEEL FREE TO ADD THEM.
