(Yesss, these are good, and it’s always ok though I can’t promise [a fast] response!)
Transformer skinhealth musings: mechs sometimes develop random small screws or bolts akin to human moles, that are not harmful on their own unless there’s too many close together or they grow too big/abnormal which is when they start to risk weakening the metal between the bolts during transformation. Seekers and other high altitude/speed flyers are especially at risk because G-forces and pressure shifts risk ripping the screws off which could be extremely risky during flight; thus seekers are considered to have ideal “skin” because they need to keep their surface as perfect as possible.
At certain points some young mechs might suffer from chronic and embarrassing paint bubbling, and older mechs might develop chronic paint wrinkling. More embarrassing and maybe more exclusive to those with Earth alt-modes are different issues in their car upholstery, and not making sure to clean, dry and air out their seats may end up with persistent itchy mildew or other infestations. Also less of a health thing but I’m pretty sure that those with more than four wheels sometimes get them pinched awkwardly after transforming to root mode, but then it’s bit embarrassing to re-transform just for that when everyone’s looking so they try to subtly hang back and shift their limbs hoping the wheel will spin to settle better.
For the purpose of this blog and the mun’s other blogs, lets talk about Cybertronian/similar reproduction:
There are four base ways in which robot “babies” come into the world. They are as follows:
Well Emergence. These ‘bots, as stated, emerge directly from the Well of All Sparks. These mechanicals are important for genetic diversity, and crawl out of the well as young blank slates. This has, historically, been most common. Considered very pure in their connection to Primus, especially in post-war times.
Budded/Carried. These mechs have at least two contributing genetic creators, but sometimes more. Two or more bots spark merge to create a new life, which is then carried by whichever mech is “most compatible” for the carrying process. At the end of the carry is the emergence, where the spark separates from its carrier and must be placed within a protoform. The protoform will then form into the frame type that the new sparkling is coded for. This method became more common as the Well began to drastically slow it’s production and the idea of siring genetic legacies became popular.
Cold constructs. Considered extremely taboo. Cold constructed mechanicals are pre-built, pre-coded “adults”, who are given a spark. Cold constructs can suffer a myriad of mental issues, most commonly, a dissatisfaction with their frame type if it differs from the one their spark is truly coded for. Many times, no one knows where the sparks of cold constructs come from.
Hot Spotters. At times, the Well will suddenly produce a high multitude of independent viable sparks without bodies. Most notable instance was at the conclusion of the war and the rebirth of Cybertron with the loss of Optimus Prime. These sparks look for specific areas called “hot spots” to bury themselves in, and the spark uses the resources in the planet directly to form a frame. This allows a huge number of sparklets to grow at once without putting a strain on existing mechs physically. Unlike any other sparklet form, Hot Spotters activate semi-wild. They instinctively pack together, but are very quick to warm up to adults and begin learning how to be somewhat civil little children.
It is not impossible for budded sparklets to be separated from their carriers early. Sparklets (occasionally called Sparkles) taken from their carriers are immediately placed within a protoform, and the protoform placed within a canopic decanter, which then was filled with a very highly supportive and high energy energon slush. This method is useful in instances where the species is in danger of becoming extinct of mechanicals who would be parents are too often put in dangerous situations to be affected by a carry. The soft-sided sacs could be placed in a singular area to be heavily defended while the parents could still perform their duties.
** feel free to reblog or adopt this headcanon if you like it. many, many people have had similar notions to these, I just wanted to have them all written down in one place.
do you think cybertronians researched things such as dry ice and other winter hazardous road conditions, or had to learn from experience? ‘cuz all i can see the autobots readying up for battle in the icy roads of canada, and they don’t know about the curse that is canada’s highways and just spin out when trying to chase decepticons
ok art’s, like, not a thing on tfa cybertron (nobody knew what it was in headmaster) but they also have these giant stained glass windows??
does this not count as art or…
You know what, Transformers Animated has so many plot holes for their culture I’ve genuinely spend time thinking about them. For example Blitzwing in episode 11 ‘Lost and Found’ tells Lugnut:
[Lugnut stomps on a lunar rover by mistake] Blitzwing: [Hothead] Careful, you copper-clad klutz! You stepped in something! Blitzwing: [switches to Random] But with a few dancing lessons, you’ll be light on your stabilizing servos like me! Cha-cha-cha!
So Decepticons have dance, but not music because Megatron calls Sari’s music ‘odd sound patterns’
BUT Rosanna is an Autobot singer: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rosanna_(Animated) so they have singing as a concept on Cybertron. Does that mean dancing is done to singing back on cybertron? Or is it by some other means?
Also, regarding art, in the official Transformers animated comic, The Arrival, set during the pilot of TFA; Blitzwing is is a public speaker at Megatron’s funeral, and he built a statue to commemorate Megatron, does that not count as art?
I have put too much thought into this cartoon.
same tho,,
ok ok maybe it’s that only younger autobots don’t know what art is. maybe it used to be a thing waaay back when, even before ratchet was around, but then they stopped doing it for some reason. maybe decepticons have a healthy art community.
and—wait, isn’t rosanna a decepticon double agent or something? it’s implied that she’s flip sides, isn’t it? so actually decepticons… should know what music is, right? or was that just not important enough for megatron to teach himself about? maybe cybertronian music is different from earth music or something?
Former specialized doctors that lie about their jobs pre-war because they know they’d be forced to be field medics and be expected to treat severe injuries that they never got the training to deal with and while they might know the basics there’s still a big difference between “I used to diagnose issues with optics and suggest treatment” and “this bot in front of me got their leg blasted off and everyone’s expecting me to be able to somehow keep them from bleeding out”
Just had a sad thought. What if some Cybertronians find mates by singing in hopes of hearing the right response. One who was really popular and a famous singer got into an accident and his voice was permanently damaged. He’s mute and it’s sad. One day though, he overhears the most beautiful singing.
So he has to figure out how to woo the other mech without a voice and starts to replay old videos of himself singing. Nothing really works because his songs never heard the right feelings or emotions. So then he spends hours and hours splicing the different audio together to make a completely new song. The intended mech swoons instantly.
faceplates aren’t “battle masks” but have some kind of medical function
only higher caste mechs can have mouths
wearing a faceplate means “I don’t feel comfortable here”/”I don’t want to interact”
mechs being in a relationship install identical facemasks/modify their existing ones to show their involvement with each other (and to signal they’re speaking “with one voice” and want to be treated as one unit)
some mechs have unmoving faces even though they don’t wear a faceplate (or maybe because they’ve lost one or their programming malfunctions)
using a faceplate isn’t something deliberate but instinctive (a mech uses his/hers when he/she feels they’re in danger/uncomfortable/insecure)
a “battle mask” retracts only when a mech recharges; the fact someone knows another mech’s “real face” is a sign of intimacy/trust

XP: what can be said about cybertronian fashion? What is, cool, common, or
high class? decorative fabrics?piercings?decals?paint jobs?
JR: The upper classes repaint/refashion (superficially) their bodies more often. ]
A fine question to ask for National Coming Out Day, well done!
IDW’s approach to Transformers – which is to say that female Transformers have not existed on Cybertron in statistically significant quantity for millions of years – means that, in fact, the whole planet is a “homonormative” society where male bots loving male bots is the standard. In addition to the breakout case of Chromedome and Rewind, other notable ‘bots have included Needlenose and Horri-Bull:
Brainstorm, who had an unrequited crush on Quark:
And Blast Off, revealed to harbour love for his commander Onslaught, who was recently mentally manipulated into returning that affection:
The introduction of Cybertron’s colony worlds, on which female Transformers widely exist, hasn’t changed this any. Same-sex couples are common on colony worlds too, including Knock Out and Breakdown, canonizing the popular fan interpretation of the Transformers Prime characters’ relationship:
And the colonies have opened up the door to female/female couples too, like Greenlight and Lancer:
and Jumpstream and Dustup:
Special mention has to Lug and Anode, a pair of assigned-male-at-birth Transformers from Cybertron who ventured out into the universe and gained a new understanding of gender through their encounters with other alien species. Deciding that “female” fit them better, they transitioned to become the first transgender lesbian Transformers couple.
Now, this isn’t a complete list – there are other minor characters, some from further back in Transformers history who are…. llllllets say, less-enlightened depictions of LGBTQ individuals. We once made a post about that history, and you can also check our Transformer romance article for a more complete list of relationships.
