And that last post made me suddenly think:

Arms dealing in TFA is often held up as a special kind of evil.  Isaac Sumdac flat-out refuses to have his firm manufacture weapons; the fact that Porter C. Powell wants to do so helps cement his status as the villain.  The Autobots themselves also seem to take this view.  In “S.U.V. – Society of Ultimate Villainy”, they go for Swindle with a vengeance, despite the fact that they’ve never even met him before, just on the grounds that he’s an arms dealer who’s willing to do business with Megatron.  And it clearly isn’t just a case of, “We have to prevent Megatron from getting his hands on this weapon” – it comes across as personal, bordering on vicious.  Hell, at the end of the episode, it’s heavily implied that the ‘Bots are going to let the police rip Swindle apart while he’s alive and conscious.  Most of the Autobots themselves seem to prefer modified construction or other civilian equipment to straight-up weaponry, almost as if it’s a point of pride.

And this was my thought:  how much of this prejudice against weapons is actually an expression of their attitudes towards the Decepticons, who are living weapons?

My @secretsolenoid fill for @Darklordofcutlets! Kind of sub-par, but I had a lot of fun writing this, especially chapters 2 and 3. I hope you enjoy,

I’M CRYING THIS IS SO IMPORTANT

I’M GLAD YOU THINK SO B/C SO DO I

neutral Cybertronians welcoming warbuilds with open arms, providing shelter and helping them adjust to life where they aren’t in constant fear of dying

neutral Cybertronians going out of their way to help their kind, being trained specifically in safe recovery from mental and physical trauma and creating safe spaces for anyone who might need them, even if they later choose to return to whatever side they left or decide join the other

neutral Cybertronians offering the de-integration of unwanted inbuilt weapons

neutral Cybertronians not demanding any frame changes if the defector doesn’t want them b/c it doesn’t matter if they’ve got an onboard rocket launcher as long as they don’t use it inappropriately

neutral Cybertronians protecting warbuilds from their factions who demand they return to the war because it might be their duty and it might be their function but it’s also bullshit

neutral Cybertronians hiding defected Decepticons and fortifying their cities against the DJD and putting up such a fight that they leave to deal with other targets first and no one ever knows about those victories because they’re far enough removed from the warfronts that no one from the colony has anyone to tell and the DJD certainly isn’t going to mention it

neutral Cybertronians burying Autobots trying to get their defected soldiers back in so much legalese that it’s simply not worth the trouble to pursue them

neutral Cybertronians protecting their warborn kin

thedaringplatypus this is relevant to someone we know~

alSO Decepticons and Autobots defecting to neutral

some neutral colonies welcoming the new arrivals but most of them being understandably suspicious of their motives and refusing them sanctuary

warbuild Cybertronians, Decepticon or Autobot, not realizing that neutrality is even an option until the run into a neutral or five or better yet until the rest of their squadron is fragging dead and they get picked up by/crash on a planet full of neutral Cybertronians and being pissed that they never got the choice to not fight

Cybertronians built solely for combat being welcomed into nonmilitarized neutral colonies

warbuilds defecting to neutral and for the first time learning skills that have nothing to do with fighting

Don’t show them how dangerous you actually are.

Pretend you want to change sides.

Give them worthless trinkets, because they won’t appreciate a real show of strength. Guns, weapons and health items will freak them out, not impress them. Stupid bit of overgrown crystal? They’ll fall over themselves thanking you.

Send them human emoji’s over a variety of social media.

Pretend to be hurt more than you are so they’ll “comfort” you.

Pick them up and carry them, bridal style.

Write Love Poetry. Steal Megatron’s if you need to, they haven’t read any of it.

Lament often how you Wish Things Could Be Different

Act happy when they buy YOU stupid and useless trinkets. Throw away all but one and pull that one out when need be for emotional gut punches.

Things that work for Both Autobots and Decepticons

Wink at them in battle.

transformers animated shattered glass except with canon power levels and heights

so optimus is like “ah,, megatron,, my pathetic nemesis,,,“ and making plenty of evil monologues while being half megatron’s size and getting swatted down in 0.5 seconds every time they fight

they kidnap sari because the biggest tower is home to the big boss,, right??? now they have to do what we say!!!

but they give their little hostage So Much Freedom. like. they even let her visit her dad. and op dumps all the supervising on bumblebee.

also because the autobots know Nothing about humans sari can make a claim with no base in fact (oh,, yep,, i need 100 candy every day or i’ll die, killing me instantly) and they’ll be like “yeah ok sounds right get her some candy”

Let me get this straight. Before TFA Ultra Magnus gained any rank of any kind his name was just Ultra?

Probably Ultra Prime

Prime is a rank, though.

// That makes sense though, like calling Sentinel ‘Magnus’ instead of Prime when he takes Ultra’s place. Before that, he was Sentinel Minor (as heard in Autoboot Camp), but as far as we know, that could also be a rank. …What were all these guys’ names before the military…?

Actually don’t quote me on this but most bots in tfa according to lore don’t have a “designation” (name) before they come of age or do something remarkable.

Kup was the one who gave Sentinel his name because he was “superior” and he names Optimus because he was super optimistic and Elita because she was vain and elite.

Also Sentinel was the one who named Bulkhead and Bumblebee as a joke because he thought they were to weak to be elite guards.

So they don’t have names or designations before that I think they are adressed as their forged frame numbers until they become unique and do their own thing.

So yes- his name is just Ultra lol

And, um, to add onto this, Arcee doesn’t appear to actually have a name?? She introduces herself by a super long serial number then says that the class can shorten it to RC.

But, uh, Ratchet does have a name and he was around at the same time as her so make of that what you will.
